Panic In The High Street

The poverty and desperation of many members of the working class is summed up by this news item. 'Police were called to the 99p Store on Wrexham's Regent Street this afternoon due to large numbers of shoppers chasing a 50p discount. The store had advertised a 50p sale via a window poster, however had forgotten to state it was time limited causing word to spread around Wrexham with hundreds turning up at the shop. ..... Local residents took to twitter amazed at the scenes, with one saying "Only in Wrexham do you get a half price sale in a 99p shop, and police presence is necessary! Who are these people that are so desperate?' (Wrexham.COM, 20 January) The local resident of Wrexham was wide of the mark - such desperation and poverty is universal inside capitalism. RD
