Life expectancy growth continues to stall in Scotland
If you live in a deprived area you are likely to have a considerably shorter lifespan than those in more affluent areas – and the report shows East Dunbartonshire, with the relatively wealthy suburbs of Milngavie and Bearsden having the longest, yet Glasgow, its immediate neighbour and significantly poorer, has the shortest. Dundee has the second lowest life expectancy.
In Glasgow City, where males are expected to live to 73.6 years and females to 78.5.
Life expectancy for females is highest in East Renfrewshire at 84.0 years and male life expectancy was highest in East Dunbartonshire at 80.5 years.”
The national life expectancy sits at 77.1 years for men and 81.1 years for women, however, this is still the lowest in western Europe. Scotland continues to have the lowest life expectancy at birth of all UK countries. Life expectancy at birth in the UK was 79.4 years for males and 83.1 years for females in 2017-2019.
The gap between the most and least deprived people’s life expectancy in Scotland is 13.3 years for men and 10 years for women
