Another Fallacy Exposed

One of the illusions mouthed by many politicians is that "we are all in this together" and there is some sort of equality existing in the wages and prices system. Here are some startling figures that disprove that particular fallacy. 'The earnings of of FTSE 100 company directors have risen by more than a fifth over the past year. Their average total earnings were £2.4 million rising to £3.3 million for chief executives, according to research from Income Data Services. Wage growth for the overall workforce, meanwhile, trails well behind inflation, rising by 0.6 per cent in the three months to July compared with the same period a year earlier. That is less than half the present rate of 1.5 per cent.' (Times, 13 October) A 20 per cent increase compared to less than 1 per cent - a strange sort of equality! RD
