What causes war and conflict?
All socialists know. Occasionally it comes out in the press. The Toronto Star (16 Nov 2008) reporting on the Congo crisis, quotes Michael Kavanagh of the Pulitzer Centre,“ This is not a Hutu-Tutsi conflict per se. This is a political and economic conflict in group identity, manipulated by opportunistic politicians and military leaders for political/military/economic ends.”.
It goes on to say, “Lust for resources has caused misery on a breathtaking scale since King Leopoldof Belgium enslaved the Congo Free State in the late 19th. Century, bringing about the deaths of some ten million people.”
