Jerry Dias, the head of Canada's largest private-sector union, Unifor, which has a membership of 315,000, says the era of a 2 per cent rise is over, in view of runaway inflation.
Most workers are bound to three-to-five-year contracts and, therefore, have no recourse to higher prices.
Their bargaining teams have no idea how to handle the surging inflation.
Dias said,'' Workers expect that their wages are at least going to pick up with the rate of inflation''.
The WSM
has always said the most unions can accomplish is to improve life for their
members within capitalism, a system we seek to abolish.
